For years, Dietz & Watson has been a proud presenter of the Hometown Heroes, honoring a standout member of the U.S. Armed Forces at each Philadelphia Eagles home game. Among those honored in past seasons is Army Staff Sergeant Earl Granville. Since his military retirement, Granville has found a different purpose; helping injured veterans live an active lifestyle. Through public speaking and races, including the Philadelphia Dietz & Watson Half Marathon, Granville has overcome tremendous adversity since his service.
Earl and his identical twin brother, Joseph, served as Infantrymen in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, and were later deployed in Bosnia and Iraq. Earl was deployed once again, this time to Afghanistan.
While in Afghanistan with the 1/109th Infantry Regiment, Earl tragically lost his leg. Earl also lost his twin brother when on December 18, 2010, Army Staff Sergeant Joseph Granville took his own life.
