dyed mozzarella

dyed mozzarella

ingredients

  1. Dietz & Watson Mozzarella Cheese
  2. 2 cups Chopped Beats
  3. 2 cups Blueberries
  4. 2 TBSP Turmeric
  5. ½ cup hibiscus
  6. 1 TBSP White Vinegar
  7. Water

directions

  1. In separate small pots, combine each natural dye ingredient with water: Turmeric: 2 tbsp turmeric + 1 cup water; Beets: 2 cups chopped beets + 2 cups water; Blueberries: 2 cups blueberries + 2 cups water; Hibiscus: ½ cup hibiscus + 1 cup water
  2. Bring each pot to a simmer and let cook for 15-30 minutes—the longer they simmer, the more vibrant the color.
  3. Once the colors are rich, remove from heat and strain out any solids.
  4. Stir 1 tablespoon of white vinegar into each dye bath to help set the color. Let the liquid cool to room temperature.
  5. To dye the Dietz & Watson Mozzarella, place your mozzarella slices into each dye bath, making sure they're fully submerged. Let them soak for at least 15 minutes—the longer they sit, the deeper the color. Note that the cheese dyes best if you trim the outside waxier edges off
  6. Carefully remove the cheese and rinse briefly under cold water to remove excess dye. Pat dry with paper towels.
  7. Arrange your beautifully colored mozzarella on a platter and impress your guests! These make a great addition to salads, sandwiches, or a fun snack on their own.
