DIETZ & WATSON’S ‘MOMMA DIETZ’ JUDGES TAILGATES AT QUEEN’S CUP STEEPLECHASE
STAR OF ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN NAMED THREE WINNERS AND PRESENTED TROPHIES IN WINNER’S CIRCLE
PHILADELPHIA (April 21, 2010) – When it comes to preparing mouth-watering meals for special occasions, Momma knows best. This year’s Queen’s Cup Steeplechase welcomed a very special Momma: ‘Momma Dietz’, also known as Ruth Dietz Eni, the chairman of Dietz & Watson. Momma Dietz served as judge of the Steeplechase’s Dietz & Watson Tailgate Contest, where hundreds of entrants tried to outdo their competition with the most elaborate, appetizing spreads of food. Momma Dietz named three winners in the contest and presented a trophy to the winner of the day’s fourth race, the Open Timber Race presented by Dietz & Watson Race, in the Winner’s Circle.
Dietz & Watson, the family-run premium deli meat & artisan cheese company from Philadelphia, was one of the Steeplechase sponsors and was proud to bring its matriarch to the 15th annual Queen’s Cup Steeplechase. First-time judge Momma Dietz lent her discerning eye and palate to the event and determined the winners in three categories for the Dietz & Watson Tailgate Contest: Most Elegant, Most Creative and Most Whimsical. Winners received coolers filled with loads of premium Dietz & Watson deli meats and artisan cheeses.
“It’s my pleasure and honor to be a part of a wonderful event that is known for people coming together and enjoying a beautiful day with friends, family and great food,” said Momma Dietz. “I’ve been in the food business my whole life and have been preparing meals for my own family for nearly 60 years, so I know a thing or two about outstanding presentation and I know I won’t be disappointed.”
Momma Dietz, who spent the day at the Steeplechase with her family, including her children and business partners Louis Eni, Chris Eni, and Cindy Yingling, has recently become a familiar face in the Charlotte area. On April 12, Charlotte motorists were introduced to Momma Dietz through the company’s new advertising campaign, featuring billboards that finally answer the question, “Who’s your Momma, Charlotte?” The answer: Momma Dietz.
In the Sampling Tent, from 10 a.m.to11:30 a.m, Momma Dietz spent time carefully examining each entered tailgate display and announced the winners at noon. The Open Timber Race presented by Dietz & Watson began at approximately 3:15 p.m.
ABOUT DIETZ & WATSON – Dietz & Watson was founded in 1939 by Gottlieb Dietz, a talented young German sausage maker. His primary goal was to produce the most flavorful, highest quality deli meats in the marketplace, to please even the most discriminating palate. His old-world recipes and commitment to “quality above all” demanded nothing less than the freshest lean beef, ham, pork turkey breast and chicken breast and only the freshest, all-natural spices and seasonings. Dietz & Watson never uses artificial flavors, colors, fillers or extenders, and never any MSG. Today, from their headquarters in Philadelphia, the third generation of the family continues Gottlieb Dietz’s dedication and commitment in preparing Premium Deli Meats and Artisan Cheeses. They are the grandchildren of company founder Gottlieb Dietz – Louis Eni (President and CEO), Chris Eni (COO) and Cindy Eni Yingling (CFO).
